Who Murdered This Man?

On December 31, 1843, Amasa Sprague, the richest man in Cranston, Rhode Island, was found brutally murdered just a few hundred yards from his mansion. Within twenty-four hours of the discovery of the body, three Irish brothers were arrested upon suspicion of murder. No hard evidence linking the Gordon's to the murder was found. Despite the lack of proof, John Gordon was found guilty of the crime and hanged. Many people believe that Gordon was not guilty of anything except being Irish. He was the last man to be executed in the State of Rhode Island.
